My name is Michael T. Slaughter, and I live in Elizabeth City, NC. I am retired and have started the adventure of full-time researching and writing. I have been researching and writing part-time for over 50 years. I am a professional genealogist and have been working on my own genealogy since 1966 and others’ genealogies since about 1980.
The first book I wrote was actually a 25-page booklet called “Gov. William Tryon And His Royal Ancestors” in 1982. That exists only in my original typed manuscript.
The first book I wrote and published was “The Slaughter Family: The Ancestors And Descendants of Jacob Schlotterer of Bodelshausen, Germany” in 1989. I wrote part of the introduction to that book way back in 1970. That original writing can be found in this site’s archive from 1970. I followed that soon afterwards with “The Kinton Family” in 1991. I have done further editions of my first book in 1992 and 2010, and I am currently working on a complete rewrite which I hope to complete in 2021 or 2022.
As one of my professional genealogy jobs, I worked on the genealogy of Allan Jones of Cleveland, TN, a distant cousin of mine who was impressed with my 2010 book. I worked for him from late 2011 until early 2015, completing a book for him in 2015 called “A Family Story: The Ancestors of William “Allan” Jones, Jr. and Paula Jane “Janie” Pangle Jones of Cleveland, Tennessee.” Mr. Jones is listed as co-author, as he wrote the introduction and added hundreds of pages of personal photos along with descriptions and comments.
I also researched and wrote a history book in 2015 for the Allan Jones Foundation, “Andrew Taylor: Man Of Mystery.” Andrew Taylor was the first settler in the area which became Mr. Jones’ hometown of Cleveland, TN. There is a park being built in Cleveland commemorating the site of Andrew Taylor’s spring and the founding of Cleveland. I had a small part in that, such as providing the measurements for the spring house recreation and being one of the people approving the choice of local river rocks for its foundation.
There are other things I’ve written that I will share in regular posts.
